How the count works

By default, the calculator measures the distance between the start and end dates without counting the end date twice. Enable “include the end date” for inclusive planning ranges.

Date difference guide

Understand the distance between two dates

Date ranges can mean two different things: elapsed time between dates, or a list of dates that includes both endpoints. This calculator shows the calendar-day total alongside weekday, weekend and week breakdowns so the result fits planning, reporting and everyday questions.

01

Calendar-day total

Measure the exact number of date boundaries between the start and end, including leap days when they occur.

02

Weekday breakdown

Separate Monday-to-Friday dates from Saturdays and Sundays for a quick working-day estimate.

03

Inclusive option

Count both selected dates when the first and last day are part of a booking, leave period or schedule.

04

Whole-week context

Translate a long span into weeks plus remaining days without doing a second calculation.

How to use this tool

  1. Select the start date

Choose the earlier boundary of the period, such as the day a project begins or a booking starts.

  2. Select the end date

Choose the final boundary. The result updates with total days, weekdays, weekends and weeks.

  3. Decide whether the range is inclusive

Enable the end-date option only when that final calendar date should count as a full day in your range.

Frequently asked questions

Does the calculator include the end date?

Not by default. The standard result measures elapsed calendar boundaries. Turn on “include the end date” when both the first and last day belong to the range.

What is the difference between calendar days and weekdays?

Calendar days include every date in the range. Weekdays include Monday through Friday, while weekend days include Saturday and Sunday.

Are public holidays removed from the weekday count?

No. Public holidays vary by country, region and employer, so this calculator treats any Monday through Friday as a weekday.

How are leap years handled?

Leap days are included automatically whenever February 29 falls inside the selected range.

Why can an inclusive result be one day larger?

Elapsed time from one date to the next excludes the starting instant. Inclusive counting treats both named dates as days in the plan, which adds one calendar day.
